Josue Comoe

Born in Ivory Coast in 1995, Josue Comoe, who came to France at the age of seven, lives and works in the Paris region. Model at the age of 16, for luxury brands like Chanel, he trained in photography and video at the National School of Decorative Arts in Paris. But it was through painting and drawing, then practiced as an autodidact, that he decided to express himself. In his work, he wants to give a place to the blacks, which Western art has neglected for centuries. He asserts himself in powerful big portraits, a way for him to claim his identity and fight against the injustices he feels. "I want," he says, "to create works that call for transcendence, works that aspire to the best, to something good and great. There is really an important part of spirituality in my paintings."

His first exhibition in Paris, in April 2018, met with great success, the media seeing him as "the new iconoclastic and promising painter". The JDD devoted a whole page in his first issue of September 2018.
