PHILIPPE SCRIVE M.SCULPTEUR AEC_page-0001.jpg

Philippe Scrive, Master Sculptor
Saturday, September 13

On the occasion of a day dedicated to artists, Galerie S/Beaubourg is organizing a meeting focused on the work of sculptor Philippe Scrive on Saturday, September 13, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Renowned for his intuitive and physical approach to sculpture, Philippe Scrive situates his work within the tradition of free form, engaging in direct dialogue with materials. Wood, bronze, alabaster, and marble become, under his hands, vehicles of a creative energy positioned between abstraction and figuration, between mass and elevation. Driven by an internal dynamic, his sculptures assert themselves as presences both archaic and organic, exploring the thresholds of life at the heart of the material’s density. This event will offer the public an opportunity to discover the artist’s universe and to engage in discussions about his artistic choices and sensitive relationship with materials.

Matrix Mater Materia

Matrix Mater Materia

The exhibition Matrix, Mater, Materia – The Substance, presented throughout the month of July 2025, with a highlight on the 11th and 12th at the S/Beaubourg gallery, concludes the trilogy of programming initiated in mid-March by Art Engagement Consulting, which has taken over the general management of the space. Conceived as a structuring milestone before the fall season, this event brings together three major international artists — Antoni Taulé, Bedri Baykam, and Philippe Scrive — in a scenography designed by Art Mouvance, and connects three distinct aesthetic movements: metaphysical realism, neo-impressionism, and abstract sculpture.

Taulé presents landscapes where a clear, structuring horizon line divides the pictorial space into dual realities, oscillating between visible and invisible, presence and absence. Baykam, working in a neo-expressionist vein, revisits archetypes of the female figure through a critical reinterpretation and dense chromatic layering. Scrive explores matter in its energetic and vibratory dimension through abstract forms with evocative power.

The exhibition follows a performative curatorial approach, prioritizing the viewer’s immediate experience and the continuity of the journey, rather than a thematic or chronological arrangement. The title — Matrix, Mater, Materia — refers to the three foundational dimensions of the creative act: the matrix as an original blueprint, the mother as a generative principle, and matter as an operative substrate, asserting that every work arises from the same substance, both formal and ontological.

This project marks the culmination of an original curatorial cycle and anticipates the critical and artistic directions that Art Engagement Consulting and Art Mouvance – Société pour l’art will pursue in fall 2025.

Micaela Neveu presents The Pre-Columbian Code at the Mexican Cultural Institute

On Thursday, July 3, Micaela Neveu – director of the S/Beaubourg gallery – will be the guest of the Mexican Cultural Institute for a presentation of her book The Pre-Columbian Code: Messenger of the Gods, published by Éditions de Paris.

This publishing project explores objects brought back from the Americas during the modern era and their transition from cabinets of curiosities to museums, through the lenses of European fascination and projection. It is a work that weaves together art history, museology, and the anthropology of perception, echoing the curatorial positions currently upheld by the gallery.

The association Art Mouvance supports and accompanies this intellectual endeavor, at the crossroads of heritage and contemporary creation.

Thursday, July 3 – 6:30 p.m.

Monumental Scrive brings together a collection of abstract sculptures by Philippe Scrive, conceived not as objects to be interpreted, but as presences to be physically experienced. At the center of the installation, L’Homme-Cerf (The Stag-Man) — a figure inspired by the god Cernunnos — condenses the tensions of the work: archaic force, ritual verticality, and the principle of transformation. It lays the foundation for a perceptual space where matter, energy, and form are inseparable.

The scenography, developed in collaboration with the artist, organizes a structured path centered on movement and perception. For the occasion, the works have been renamed to guide interpretation toward their telluric (earthly) and gestural dimensions. Rather than being apprehended solely by sight, they engage the body through proximity, scale, and movement.

Monumental Scrive extends the reflection begun at Galerie S/Beaubourg around the notion of an "other world," introduced in Entropie (Antoni Taulé) and later explored in Les Demoiselles Revisited (Bedri Baykam), where painting became a critical device and memory of the modern gesture.

Exhibition on view until July 19 at Galerie S/Beaubourg.
